FAQs about the new NAIC/Partnership Training Requirements
General questions
1. Do I need to take the new NAIC/Partnership Training if I do not plan on selling partnership policies?
Most states require this new training for agents selling ANY LTC insurance. For a full state listing of requirements click here
2. Do I need to take this new training only in my home state or in each state where I am licensed?
This is determined by each state’s Department of Insurance (DOI) and will be communicated as they release their specific regulations. Many states will reciprocate with other states in order to allow multi-state licensed agents to avoid having to complete this training in every state in which they are licensed. However, some states require state specific training.
For a full state listing of reciprocity click here
3. Will I be tested on each state’s partnership policy requirements? If so, will I have to pay for each state’s test separately?
As a general rule you will not be tested on state specific material.
Again, this is determined by each state’s DOI, but we anticipate that most states will recognize training taken in another state. Some states will require if you are a resident of that state you must take a course specific to that state (example: TN must take a TN approved course).4. Will I need to submit certificates of completion to each carrier for each state in which I am appointed?
This will depend on each carrier’s internal policy for certification completion. The carriers that support the CLTC Partnership Training program will be given access to all students completing the training in order to avoid a lengthy administration process. Also, as a member provider of ClearCert, all student’s certificates of completion will be maintained in one data base and accessible to member carriers and distributors for easy look up recognition.
5. Do I need to submit an ORIGINAL certificate of completion to each carrier that I represent or can I send a photocopy?
Most carrier's will accept a copy of your certificate of completion. However, if your carrier requires an original copy, you have the option to order additional certificates at $10 each.To order a copy of your certificate, please contact Insurance Study at 866-339-3900.
6. What happens if I live in one of the states that require a separate license to sell LTC? Will this training be in addition to the initial licensing requirement?
7. What happens if I submit business and have NOT completed the Partnership training?
Insurance carriers have the responsibility of making sure each producer has completed the required training prior to processing any submitted business. Most carriers will require the agent to be certified prior to taking an LTCi application.
8. In a case of split commissions, do all agents on the application need to meet the state’s training requirements?
Yes, any producer whose name is on the application and receiving any commissions will need to be properly trained and provide evidence of completion of this training to the carrier.
9. Will I be notified when my 4 hour Partnership recertification requirement is due?
Yes, all agents completing the 8 hour NAIC Partnership Training with CLTC will be notified in advance of the 4 hour recertification requirement for each state the agent is appointed.
